3 Major Tahoe Resorts Opening WEDNESDAY

by Dan Giesin | November 21, 2016

The Lake Tahoe area will kick the 2016-17 ski season into second gear on Wednesday when three major resorts — Alpine Meadows, Heavenly and Northstar — start spinning their lifts.
Thanks to a series of storms over the past weekend and the return of temperatures more conducive to snowmaking, the three aforementioned resorts will have enough product on the ground to whet the appetites of most early-season skiers and snowboarders.
Although the terrain and lift options will be very limited for the opener, a promise of a somewhat stormy Thanksgiving Day weekend could open up more of the mountains, and allow other prominent Tahoe areas, such as Kirkwood, Squaw Valley and Sugar Bowl, to start the bull wheels turning by Sunday.
Alpine, Heavenly and Northstar will join Mt. Rose and Boreal, both of which opened last Friday, as the only Tahoe Resorts that will be open for some Turkey Day riding and sliding.
