3 Ski Films Near You to Get You Stoked for Ski Season

by Greg Colquitt | September 29, 2021

You’ve been cooped up. We understand.

So have we. But winter is coming and now we’re all ready to let our hair down and our ski wings fly out there on the mountains as soon as they open up. Challenge is–they’re not open yet. The horror!

Though some hills will race to open in October (we’re looking at you, A-Basin & Loveland Ski Area), most of us will have to wait until December to really get the party started. In the meantime, when you’re not checking the long-term winter forecast or tracking down a ski expo near you, you can catch a few ski films. Maybe this will give you the fix you need to keep your mind just a little less antsy.

What ski films to watch

The world is laden with pretty excellent snow content these days and chances are, there’s a showing near you. Click the links below to see if there’s one for you to attend.

Teton Gravity Research (TGR)

You may have seen the iconic outline of the Tetons in the TGR logo on a car bumper or a t-shirt somewhere. If you have, you get a sense of what TGR is all about–extreme stoke. Launched in the 90’s in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, TGR was early to the game in creating top-tier skiing, snowboarding, and surfing films. They are an athlete-driven company, and their films are led by snow sports notables such as Jeremy Jones, Angel Collinson, and Sage Cattabriga-Alosa.

All this goes to say, if you catch one of these ski films, you’re going to have a good time. Check the links below to see where one is playing near you.

Matchstick Productions (MSP)

Like TGR, MSP got its feet wet in the early 90’s when the ski film world needed a little more flair. With a penchant for big lines and big parties, MSP starting pumping out films that could immediately get your heart racing. Their films are classics and worth a watch. Also, fun fact–MSP has expanded their expertise to telling not just snow stories, but telling mountain bike and even brand stories as well. (They recently filmed a hilarious commercial with Jason Alden. You can watch it here.)

But we’re all here for the ski films. To find one near you, hit that link below.

Warren Miller

The grand pa pa of all grand pa pa’s. Warren Miller was the OG ski filmer and produced his first ever ski film under the name Warren Miller Entertainment (WME) in 1949. Warren Miller films are a forever classic and have withstood the test of time. You can count on a heavy dose of voice overs and humor with these films. You will also have a much easier time finding a Warren Miller ski film no matter where you live–they are showing films in 26 states across the US!
