Eastern Resorts are Opening Historically Early

Vermont’s Mount Snow to Open Earliest in History

Ski Magazine’s best snow in the East is coming up big and early this year. On Saturday October 25th, Mount Snow will turn its lifts to skiers and riders—the earliest opening in the mountain’s 64-year history. Behind a $30 million investment in snow making equipment, a recent cold snap, and a small snow storm, the mountain was able to make enough snow to open terrain for some early season turns. No beginner terrain will be open, but if weather cooperates, additional terrain may be added. Be sure to check the Mount Snow snow report for the most up-to-date information.

Other Resorts Open in New England

Like Fourth of July fireworks, resorts are popping off left and right, and it seems the East is having the most fun. With a friendly storm today and more coming this Saturday, Killington (open every day!), Sunday River, and Wildcat Mountain will continue to add to existing snow on the hill. While you won’t be skiing top to bottom in weightless powder, it still will be a great opportunity to wax up your skis and knock the cobwebs off.

Colorado is Back

While the East is setting records, the West is also having its fair share of fun–welcome news after last years dismal snow performance. Colorado’s most consistent powder pocket, Wolf Creek, was the first to open after a monster 30″ dump allowed them to set their second earliest open date on October 13th. Also, the two token early openers in Colorado–Arapahoe Basin (Oct. 19) and Loveland (Oct. 20)–are spinning their lifts, each with one lift and one trail open. For Colorado, snow is back on the menu!
Here’s a list (and some pics, of course) of OPEN resorts in the East and out West. Time to get out there!
