Keeping Tabs On The Freshest Tracks: Part II
Three weeks of following snow totals from around the country, and a plethora of precipitation is keeping things interesting for skiers, snowboarders, and a certain GetSkiTickets.com blogger, who has been seriously reaping the benefits of said accumulation. While the past month has been mostly a highlight reel of the snowstakes out West, this week featured a pretty eclectic mix of big totals being claimed on the East Coast and in the Mid West. Check out some of the biggest 24 hours totals as of December 30, according to Opensnow.
- A tie for first between Alyeska Resort, in Alaska, and Ski Camp Fortune in Quebec gives us our number one for the day’s snow accumulation. Both resorts are reporting 16 inches over the past 24 hours.
- Mont Tremblant, in Quebec, comes in second for the most snow accumulation over the past 24 hours, reporting 13 inches as of this morning.
- A pretty diverse mix of accumulation around the country and into Canada gives us a three way tie for the third biggest reported snowfall over 24 hours. Boyne Mountain, Michigan, Mount Pakenham, Ontario, and Sunday River, Maine are all claiming 10 inches for the day.
- Another three way tie gives us the next batch of the snowiest resorts in North America, with the Midwest and Great Lakes region continuing to represent for most snow accumulation. Christmas Mountain and Mt. LaCrosse, both in Wisconsin, and Whiteface Mountain, in New York, are claiming 9 inches over the past 24 hours.
- Rounding out the top five for most snow accumulation is Black Mountain, Hermon Mountain, and Shawnee Peak, all of Maine, along with Boyne Highlands, Michigan, and Wolf Creek in Colorado all claiming 8 inches over the past 24 hours.
Yes, East Coasters, you heard right, it looks like Winter has finally started moving in your direction, although most of the snow totals for New England will be accumulating further North. Warmer ground temperatures will continue to cause some problems with melting, but colder temperatures should continue for the next week with a few more inches of snow on the way.
As for my friends out West, Opensnow’s powder finder is calling for the most snow to fall in Colorado, with Wyoming and Idaho also enjoying a dusting over the next day or two. For those up North, and I mean way up North, Alaska’s Thompson Pass is expecting up to three feet from a Winter storm over the next three days (say what?!).
Sounds like Old Man Winter is finally being a bit more generous to everyone over the holidays; keep an eye on the snowstake, and follow those freshies!
