Ski The East: New England Gems for The Whole Family

by Kirsten Dobroth | November 18, 2015

The road to an epic Winter doesn’t necessarily involve i-70 or waiting at baggage claim; in fact, for many New Englanders, getting that freshie fix simply means heading North to the mountains of VermontNew Hampshire, and Massachusetts. After being pounded last Winter by record amounts of snow, many New England resorts have become more than a weekend escape from the city, but a crowning piece of a snowy New England vacation.
Okemo Mountain
Okemo Mountain Resort
One of Vermont’s most iconic resorts, Okemo Mountain has a little something for everyone. No stranger to accolades, Okemo has been getting attention for years as a family friendly resort that offers mellow groomers for the littlest ski bunny, and challenging terrain for more experienced skiers and riders. It’s location in Ludlow, Vermont makes it a feasible drive from Boston for a day trip or weekend getaway. Okemo has announced some exciting upgrades this season that include expanded snow making capabilities, and revamped chair lifts.
Mount Sunapee

A jaunt up 93 is all it takes to experience some of the best skiing and riding in New England, at New Hampshire’s Mt. Sunapee Resort. Known for impeccable grooming and family friendliness, Mt. Sunapee has spent the last several years investing in expanded snowmaking capabilities, making it a top destination, especially for early season riding. There’s no shortage of adventure at Mt. Sunapee, as the resort offers 61 runs and five terrain parks of varying ability level. The town of Sunapee and nearby Lake Sunapee round out this stop on a New England ski tour as a perfect opportunity for a group, family, or couple to fall in love with winter in New Hampshire.
Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort
Jiminy Peak Resort Massachusetts
A list of New England ski resorts wouldn’t be complete without a shoutout to one of Massachusetts’ best, and Jiminy Peak, located in the Berkshires, delivers. While Massachusetts may not conjure up the image of bucolic mountains dusted in snow quite as much as it’s neighbors to the North, the Berkshire region of Massachusetts is home to some fantastic mountain scenery and quaint New England towns that make the 2 and a half hour ride from Boston worth the drive. This resort in Western Massachusetts boasts 45 trails throughout 170 acres of terrain, and makes for the perfect getaway.
We all remember last Winter’s snowpocalypse; ski the East this Winter, and get your tickets for some of New England’s best today.
