Stayin’ Alive – Where to Ski Late Season (And Even Summer)
The end is near!…but not everywhere.
The snow is melting and the parking lots are looking a lot clearer these days, but such omens do not have to mark the total end to skiing and riding. Although in small quantities, there will be places to slide on snow after the final bell tolls. The fun doesn’t have to end just yet. To illuminate the path, here are just a few of our favorite spots to ski into late spring and even summer.
Late Spring
This season hasn’t been the most gratuitous in terms of overall snowfall, but despite the below-average snowpack, resorts are from Vermont to Colorado are planning on keeping things rolling as long as they can. In the past, Colorado’s A-Basin and California’s Mammoth Mountain have been known to stay open until July. We don’t expect the same thing to happen this year, but we are very hopeful some late season snow will keep the lifts turning.

- Winter Park – Colorado – April 24 (Mary Jane will stay open as long as possible)
- Whistler-Blackcomb – British Columbia – May 23 (Horstmann Glacier open for summer skiing)
- Killington – Vermont – Until it stops snowing

Summer
Summer skiing is a very good time. Think about this–sunshine, playful snow, and smiles for miles. Just keep in mind there is a very strong case for sunscreen. Take a look below at some of our favorite summer skiing spots. Be sure to note Montana’s Beartooth Basin at the end of the list. There is no skiing whatsoever during the typical winter sports month. Instead, they flip the script upside down and wait for the summer months to roll around. But hey when you’re 10,000ft up on the Beartooth Highway, sometimes the flakes never stop flying, even in the middle of summer!
