The Best Spring Party in The World is At Mt. Bachelor

by Greg Colquitt | March 15, 2019

Things are heating up at Bachelor.

What if you could spend your days under the sun sipping beer, watching skiers and rider launch hella big air, dancing to good music, and making some turns all at the same time? Well, in Oregon, you can.

Enter–Mt. Bachelor’s Sunchaser Spring.

Starting in just a couple weeks, the list of events that make up the best spring party in skiing is getting underway. For the skiing, Bachelor has a specific Sunchaser Spring Pass that allows for unlimited skiing and riding from March 30th-May 26th. Nobody does it quite like Bachelor.
Saturday March 30th : 10 Barrel Hella Big Air
To kick things off the Bend, Oregon-based brewery, 10 Barrel Brewing, sponsors the Hella Big Air event–an epic high-flying (and high-paying) competition to see which rider or skier can send it to the absolute moon. If you’re lucky the sun will be out and, since it’s sponsored by a brewery, you know the beer will be flowing.
Saturday April 6th : VertFest 2019
A week later the Central Oregon Avalanche Center, Outdoor Research, Black Diamond, and HydroFlask all come together to put on the country’s ultimate celebration of backcountry skiing and riding. The day includes riding, demos, clinics, food, and a party (obviously), to increase avalanche awareness & training and to get people excited about the back country.
Friday April 12 – Sunday April 14th : Gerry Lopez Big Wave Challenge
In mid-April it’s time to wax up the board. Though they might not be slashing waves on Oahu, in honor of surfer and Mount Bachelor legend, Gerry Lopez, you can watch snowboarders slashing snow on monster banked turns, spines, and quarter-pipes designed to mimic the natural movement of the ocean. Practice for the event starts on Friday and the event itself will take place on either Saturday or Sunday depending on the best weather conditions. The following video is a glimpse of the surf stoke that’s available to those who seek it.

Wednesday April 17th – Sunday April 21st – Rendezvan
RendezVan is the celebration of the amazing community of RVers, campers, and van-lifers who make the annual pilgrimage to Mt. Bachelor in the springtime to enjoy soft spring laps and sunshine. Families, skiers, riders, and all travelers are welcome — even the dogs are invited!
Saturday April 27th : 10 Barrel Snow Beach + Live Music
10 Barrel is back again with warmer weather, more music, and more beer. Be prepared to play games like human sized Jenga and good food on the snow with the sun shining down overhead (hopefully!).
Saturday May 25 – Sunday May 26: Sunchaser Spring Finale Weekend
Yes, you read that right. That says May 26-26th. Mount Bachelor likes to stay open late into the year, which is another reason why they have one of the best spring celebrations around. Unfortunately the fun has to come to an end but not before a big send off. The finale is capped off by a classic pond skim, attracting all manner of costumes and wipe-outs to finish out another epic season on the hill.

Maybe you’ll suit up and try to make it across the pond…

but if that’s not your cup of tea at the very least head out to Bend and pay a visit to Bachelor this season. Nobody does Spring like Bachelor.

Making the Most of the End of the Year

Saving the best days for last? Well folks, it has been a phenomenal ski year out West (sorry East coast skiers, maybe next year!), and with that comes the most heart-wrenching time of year, when we must say goodbye to our beloved mountains and let the beauty of summer...

Purgatory – The Prettiest Resort in the Southwest?

About 7 hours south of Denver, striated cliff bands welcome you as you make your way up through the town of Durango to Purgatory Mountain Resort. The name of the resort is certainly a misnomer – Purgatory appears to be anything but! Protected by its remote location,...

Staying safe in DEEP pow

Let’s talk about the snowpack. It’s not just your imagination, 2022-23 has been an excellent snow year so far. The West in general is still dry as ever, but it is nice to at least take a moment to enjoy the snow we do have. In California, reeling from a couple years...
