The Epic Pass Goes Even Bigger in Canada

by Greg Colquitt | March 8, 2018

Just when you thought you couldn’t get more…

Vail Resorts continues to push the envelope of one person’s ability to ski just about anywhere.

Vail Goes Canadian

Only weeks after the Ikon Pass unveiled its overarching plan to deliver skiers and snowboarders to 26 resorts across the continent, Vail Resorts’ well-known pass, the Epic Pass, expanded to include six Canadian resorts, joining the ranks of the already-part-of-the-crew Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia which became a functioning member of the pass this season.
The Epic Pass added the Canadian resorts under the newly minted RCR–Resorts of the Canadian Rockies–which will include British Columbia’s Fernie Alpine Resort, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, & Kimberley Alpine Resort, Alberta’s Nakiska Resort, and Quebec’s Mont Sainte Anne & Stoneham.

Pass Holder Perks

Pass holders will be granted 7 days total to split among all RCR resorts. After the seven days are used up, pass holders will be able to buy single day lift tickets at 50% off, which is similar to other resorts which have teamed up with the Epic Pass.
Since the acquisition of Whistler Blackcomb for $1B, Vail has pivoted towards partnering with resorts to increase reach on their widely popular Epic Pass. At the end of January, Vail added Colorado’s southwest gem, Telluride, for 7 days, and then recently on March 2, reached across the pond to powder frenzied Hukuba Ski Valley in Japan for 5 days. The Epic Pass now grants access to 61 resorts around the world in Canada, the US, Australia, Japan, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria.

The question remains for the modern skier and boarder–what pass to buy?

Three passes have emerged as contenders in the upcoming season–Vail’s Epic Pass, the new Ikon Pass, and the Mountain Collective Pass. Now more than ever, consumers of snow have every option possible to get their fix. Where will you go?
