Think Pink Vail

by Kirsten Dobroth | March 31, 2016

If fresh snow in Colorado’s mountains isn’t enough of a reason to make the trek to the high country this weekend, it might be time to bust out some costumes and assemble a team for Pink Vail, the world’s largest ski day to conquer cancer, this Saturday, April 2nd.
All funds raised at Pink Vail benefit the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, based in nearby Edwards, which provides quality, personalized care to countless patients and cancer survivors. Shaw’s approach is different than a traditional hospital setting; the treatment center offers a wide range of programs aiming to support both patients and their families- lodging is available on site for family members visiting from out of town, along with a comprehensive wellness program for patients that includes nutritional advice and guidance, fitness classes, and spiritual assistance.
Vail has hosted the event since 2012, and the event’s growth each year has been astounding. Last year, nearly 2,500 people participated in the event, with $750,000 being raised for the treatment center. It’s not too late to register either; head to the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola (the one in Lionshead) at Eagle’s Nest on the morning of the event and register for $25. You can find the day’s listed itinerary below.
8:30am:  Pink Vail Headquarters, at Eagle’s Nest, opens for check-in.
8am to 10:30am: Head to the Smartwool Store of free pink donuts and coffee.
9am to 1pm: Get creative at the event’s family friendly costume contest, at Pink Vail Headquarters. A medley of prizes are up for grabs at thuis family friendly event.
9am to 3pm: Check out live music, all day, at Pink Vail Headquarters featuring Rural Wreckage, the Renegade Sons, and Dixie Leadfoot.
10am – 2pm: Join the Checkpoint Challenge for a team oriented event to ski to different locations for the chance to win prizes, and show off your costume, of course.
10am – 3pm: Get a free portrait at Pink Vail Headquarters and post it to EpicMix.
12pm: FINAL DONATIONS SUBMITTED.
3:30PM: Head to the Spirit Rally for another chance at some sweet prizes.
4PM: Join in on the Celebration Ski Down to close out the day.
If you can’t make it up to Vail to partake in the day’s activities, but still want to donate to this amazing event, visit Pink Vail’s site and add to the cause.

Making the Most of the End of the Year

Saving the best days for last? Well folks, it has been a phenomenal ski year out West (sorry East coast skiers, maybe next year!), and with that comes the most heart-wrenching time of year, when we must say goodbye to our beloved mountains and let the beauty of summer...

Purgatory – The Prettiest Resort in the Southwest?

About 7 hours south of Denver, striated cliff bands welcome you as you make your way up through the town of Durango to Purgatory Mountain Resort. The name of the resort is certainly a misnomer – Purgatory appears to be anything but! Protected by its remote location,...

Staying safe in DEEP pow

Let’s talk about the snowpack. It’s not just your imagination, 2022-23 has been an excellent snow year so far. The West in general is still dry as ever, but it is nice to at least take a moment to enjoy the snow we do have. In California, reeling from a couple years...
