This is The Weekend for Ski Town Festivals

by Kirsten Dobroth | June 16, 2016

Summer in the mountains is a special time; the snow melts, the locals start wearing summer apparel when the temperature hits 50 degrees, and tiny towns known for ski runs and powder days become the place to be for festivals. Aspen and Telluride, in particular, are home to some renowned food and music celebrations happening this weekend, and while tickets are sold out, there’s nothing quite like being in town when everyone else is.
The Food and Wine Classic in Aspen
Food and wine hits a whole new level- nearly 8,000 feet above sea level- for Aspen’s premier festival celebrating food and wine in the mountains. Running from June 17th-19th, the Classic is world renowned as the summer time destination to rub elbows with premier wine makers, celebrity chefs, and, of course, taste some memorable selections of food and drink. While tickets are sold out for this year’s event, there are ways to enjoy some of the perks of the mountain food and wine celebration without passes, as listed in an article from Curbed (and if you do have tickets- lucky you- check out Curbed’s take on some of the best events on this year’s schedule).
Telluride Bluegrass Festival
The 43rd annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival kicks off today in this southwestern Colorado ski town gem, and runs til Sunday night. One of the most celebrated and beloved festivals by Telluride locals and the many attendees who return each year for the event, there’s nothing quite like listening to some of the best bluegrass acts in the country with the backdrop of Telluride’s stunning scenery. And if you’re not quite as versed in some of the must do’s of the Bluegrass Festival as the many “festivarians” who annually descend upon the ski town, check out 303 Magazine’s list for making the most of out a weekend at this Colorado classic.

Purgatory – The Prettiest Resort in the Southwest?

About 7 hours south of Denver, striated cliff bands welcome you as you make your way up through the town of Durango to Purgatory Mountain Resort. The name of the resort is certainly a misnomer – Purgatory appears to be anything but! Protected by its remote location,...

Staying safe in DEEP pow

Let’s talk about the snowpack. It’s not just your imagination, 2022-23 has been an excellent snow year so far. The West in general is still dry as ever, but it is nice to at least take a moment to enjoy the snow we do have. In California, reeling from a couple years...
