Three Free Apps for Skiing
Trying to keep track of the kids, your friends, your speed, your runs and vertical, and where the heck you are all at once when you hit the slopes? No problem, these free apps for skiing are all available for download on your smartphone to keep everything at your fingertips. And while they will probably make your life easier on the hill, the best part is that you can save your money for hot cocoas at the lodge.
Slopes, available for Apple.
The Slopes app allows users to not only receive run by run data analysis, but also has the ability to take pictures and notes on each run, as well. You can even share what you save with friends, and take the same detailed information saved from in-bounds runs in the backcountry. If you can’t live without your Fitbit, you’ll love the app’s built-in fitness tracker, too. getslopes.com
On the Snow Ski & Snowboard Report, available for Apple or Android.
OpenSnow’s website is now available for Apple and Android with the same up-to-the-minute information on snow forecasts and accumulation at resorts across the country that has given the site the repuation as one of the best and most reliable weather sites for ski resorts in the country. If you’re heading overseas on a ski trip, you’ll be pleased to find that many international resorts also have forecasts available via the app (data charges not included). onthesnow.com
EpicMix, available for Apple or Android.
Social media meets networking meets Vail Resorts’ very own ski app, which does everything from tracking your runs and vertical for the day — and season — to sharing your Epic Pics with friends and family. If competition is your thing, try comparing your stats to others, or rack of pins for skiing and riding on certain days or hitting season milestones (gotta catch’em all). The app only works at Vail Resorts locations. epicmix.com
