Skiing in Andorra

Wedged between France and Spain in the high Pyrenees, Andorra (a.k.a the Principality of Andorra, a.k.a. the Principality of the Valleys of Andorra) is the sixth smallest country in Europe, with a land area of 181 square miles. Andorra is mostly rugged, glacier-carved mountains and valleys, which makes for terrific skiing and snowboarding terrain. The high alpine beauty is what attracts the bulk of the more than 10 million tourists who visit the country annually — contributing 340 million euros to local coffers — and are responsible for 80 percent of Andorra’s GDP. Many of the visitors come in winter to play at any of Andorra’s nine ski resorts, including Grandvalira, Vallnord/Arcalis and Vallnord/Pal-Arinsal. Grandvalira, which is composed of four smaller ski hills, is the country’s largest resort with 62 of the nation’s 100 ski lifts, while Vallnord/Pal-Arnisal has the greatest vertical relief at 3,300 feet. Although Catalan is the official language, French and Spanish are spoken throughout the principality and English is fairly common. View Andorra lift ticket deals at GetSkiTickets.com.
