What's up at Sierra-at-Tahoe?

About 16 miles from the Nevada border sits the family-friendly ski resort of Sierra Resort. Unlike most of the Tahoe resorts, it is located on the south side of the lake, in the Eldorado National Forest. Known for an epic amount of annual snowfall, Sierra Resort is a great place for beginners, too. Sierra Resort offers 14 chairlifts, and its five terrain parks keep park enthusiasts happy. Near the top of the mountain, gates provide access into Huckleberry Canyon. For individual and group discount lift tickets at Sierra Resort, look no further than GetSkiTickets.com!

Pros : great staff, slopes, resort
Cons : snow was not cooperating that day

discount was terrific compared to the daily fee. the snow was not as wonderful as it was a warm storm that was putting new wet powder on the terrain closing some areas. would have skied the next day if the tickets weren’t day specific but such is life, sometimes you hit the jackpot and some days you hit the bars !!! will do it again conditions permitting. staff and resort first class even with the challening snow quality that day.

    Great skiing and great staff!

Pros : Everyone who works at Sierra-at-Tahoe, as well as excellent snow and runs
Cons : Most runs end at the bottom of the hill, so you have to get back in the base lift line again.

The snow was magnificent, and the staff at Sierra-at-Tahoe wanted me to make the most of it, so they helped me get my rental equipment set up quickly and get me out on the slopes over the Martin Luther King weekend. Since it’s a smaller resort than a lot of others, there long lift lines on the three-day weekend. I got to stay for two days past that, though, and felt like I had the mountain to myself, practically. It was the best skiing I’ve ever experienced. Partly that was just due to luck: there was a lot of snow that came down while I was up there. But what made the experience great was the really cool people there; you can tell that they all love their jobs, and that the family that owns the resort treats all of its employees well. That’s how it should be. The corporate feel of Heavenly was blessedly absent, and made it worth the extra few miles of driving to get to Sierra-at-Tahoe. I’ll come back every chance I get.

Pros : Great powder snow. Nicely spaced trees. Very few people
Cons : Some flats that can require poling if you don't know where they are.

A wonderful day of skiing. Great snow and a wonderful variety of ski terrain. Friendly staff and an all around great experience.

    Family Friendly

Pros : Good food up top. Several easier trails for beginners and novices.

We have been coming to Sierra for about eight years. During that time, our kids have progressed from ski school to intermediate level. We have appreciated the friendliness of the staff, the good food at the top of the mountain, the easy access from South Lake Tahoe lodging, and the number of available runs for beginners and novices. Discount packages online and at the resort help to keep prices reasonable. Many of the staff appear to be from other countries, which adds to the character of Sierra. Perhaps the best way to sum it up is to say, “Sierra is family friendly.”
